"Live Like You're Blessed"

 "Naming the Blessings"

"Dr. Emmons writes, "The more grateful we are, the more
reasons we have to be grateful." This knowledge can create a
shift from gratitude as a response to gratitude as an attitude,
as a receptive state that allows blessings to flow in . . . this attitude
brings about a relationship with the Divine, the source from which
all good comes.

Studying gratitude in the psychology department of the University
of California, Davis, Dr. Emmons found that people who tend to
express gratitude report high levels of  alertness and energy and
are likely to be engaged in social behaviors that involve helping
others.

"Not only do they feel good, they also did good,"  he writes.
Compared to those who seldom express gratitude, he found that
grateful people tend to be better at coping with problems, enjoy
better health, and are more socially adaptable.
Emmons's research confirmed what so many people have long
sensed:  that praising God makes us feel better by revving up our
energy level.  That's all the more reason to follow the call to:
"Bless the Lord, O My soul, and forget not all his benefits."
(Psalm 103.2)

Praising God makes the color of spring seem brighter.  Praising
God makes food tastier and more satisfying.  Praising God, even
on the chilliest of nights, makes us feel warmer, more comforted.

Gratitude helps us feel the fullness and joy of life."
